The 2009 Saab 9-3 isn’t the flashiest or most exciting car on the road, at least not to look at—but then Saab buyers have always been a cultish group. You either love your Saab madly for no apparent reason; or, like NPR’s Click and Clack brothers, you have nothing nice to say about the quirky Swedish car and don’t mind telling everyone you meet. The 2009 Saab 9-3 comes with a 2.8-litre V6 engine that delivers a respectable 273 horsepower, and is coupled to a six-speed automatic.
It moves the 9-3 down the road at a respectable pace and has plenty of gusto when passing on the highway. The exterior styling has remained essentially unchanged for years, and the interior is modestly lush, with real leather upholstery and a clean overall dash design that will please most fans. The legroom in the back leaves a bit to be desired; any rear riding passengers who aren’t under six years of age will feel cramped on anything except a short ride across town. But then, with a range on the MSRP of $35,950 all the way up to $60,490, if you are test driving this car, you probably aren’t going to be transporting too many kindergartners anyway.
