Speed limits are imposed for a reason. They normally help set a medium for drivers to follow to avoid untoward incidents that could affect them or the people they may bump into. In most states, these are imposed. And while you think that traffic officers are not around, remember that we are in the modern age.
This means that there are tracking cameras which record and take note of your vehicle and they can trace you. There are corresponding penalties and violations and while it is tempting to rev it up the wide open roads, try to keep in mind that you are being watched.
The law currently states that the speed limits are set at 30mph in built-up areas, 40mph in less densely populated areas, 60mph on single carriageways and 70mph on dual carriageways and motorways. Some residential areas have a speed limit of just 20mph, especially near schools.
Speeding is something that will bring you nothing but trouble. For one, regardless of what speed you are traveling, you will get to your point of destination. So with that in mind, save yourself the trouble of ticket violations. If you abuse it, you may even find yourself without a license soon!
