I think I speak for a whole lot of people when I say, where’s my autodrive system? I’m getting sick of having to work my own wheel and pedals and suchlike, and I’d love it if the car could handle its own getting around, instead of me having to figure out where everything is while I drive. No, I’d sooner leave the driving to the car, and thanks to Nissan’s EPORO, I may finally have my druthers.
The EPORO is designed to operate just like a fish in a school, with three basic behaviors: avoid collisions, travel side by side, and approach far away fish. This is, of course, exactly what you do in your car, so once a car can be programmed with these same “prime directives” and allowed to act accordingly, it becomes a simple matter of tying the whole thing in with GPS and cruise control and bam! self driving car.
This is all still very much conceptual, and the prototypes debut at CEATAC this weekend.
