Miami EV Project’s electric Golf

Sure you can wait around for fully electic cars like Chevy’s Volt, but why not just take the matters into your own hands? That’s what two men from the Miami EV Project decided to do with a Volkwagen Golf III.

Pictured above is the final product, taking about 70 days to complete, which uses no gasoline whatsoever. They swapped out the previously unenvironmentally friendly engine, and replaced it with an electic motor and batteries.

How much did this conversion cost? Well, the duo estimates about $13,000 not including the $5,000 paint job. They also estimate that on a full charge costing about $1.50, the car will run for 50 miles. If you compare that to current gas prices which are on average $1.80, that’s over 50 miles per gallon, only the car would theoretically only be holding one gallon. Let’s see a fully electric Bugatti Veyron, Miami EV Project!
