Mazda has decided to go on a diet with their future models. No less than 200kg will be stripped off the new cars. The methods used will be using lighter materials, new chassis design and new material bonding methods. Please do not try any of these at home in order to loose some weight!
These building techniques are said to have been mastered during the actual development of the Mazda2 which you might already know. Mazda has a material which will save weight about 10% weight. It’s called micro-cell plastic and it might just be the thing they needed. Also 15% of weight lost will come from a lighter chassis.
Hopefully all this weight loss will make your Mazda save some gas while keeping current safety features up.
