It seems that we’re not the only ones who’d like to see the Porsche 918 super-hybrid to be built — Porsche themselves are eager to get this bay to the market. Porsche’s Michael Macht said “”here is no one inside Porsche who doesn’t want to build the 918. The 918 Spyder proves the answer to whether there can be high-performance cars in the future.” If this concept does get the green light for production, we could likely see it hit the streets within the next five years”. Five years? Darn! We want this now! You hear, Porsche?
The Porsche 918 hybrid concept is easily the biggest piece of car news of the year so far, and the video above does it justice. We really, really wanna see this car on the market.
The newly unveiled Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid concept might just be the ultimate sports car. Ever. It’s a plug-in hybrid with a 500HP V8 engine and two electric motors, which give it an astonishing 78 MPG. But fear not, the speed is still there: 0-60 in 3.2 seconds with both the petrol and electric engines engaged. The electric motors produce an additional 200 HP, so you’re looking at a compact sports car with a possible 700 HP.
It was supposed to be unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, but after several leaks, Porsche went and revealed the whole thing in advance. First of all, the 2011 version is 1.9 inches longer than the previous model, but that’s not the interesting part; the Cayenne S Hybrid is Porsche’s first production hybrid, with a 3.0 liter supercharged V6 with 47-horsepower electric motor, bringing the total to a cool 380 horses. Gas mileage was not revealed, but it’s certainly better than the non-hybrid models.
Porsche is undergoing testing on its 2011 911 vehicles, and one of those, and we’re sure this is gonna be one of the top sellers, is the 911 Convertible. The car pretty much has the same features as the coupe, and you can check out more spy shots here.
Yes, folks, we’ve got a sweet video of a Porsche 996 GT Turbo getting put through its paces today, and man, is it ever exciting.
It’s getting put through its paces on the Jerez test track, and as a result, we get just over three and a half minutes of sweet Porsche action as that monster goes flying around the curves and over the straightaways of this track.
There’s a LOT to notice in this video–it’s not just cars whipping around a track at ludicrous speeds. For instance, you’ll be treated to the sight of a spoiler that’s wider than the car itself, and the most outlandish orange and black paintjob you may well have ever seen on a car.
Bizarre aesthetics aside, there’s lots of reason to enjoy this video, though. It’s quite clear that the Porsche 996 GT Turbo is a high performance machine that does exactly what it sets out to do–burn its way around the track like no tomorrow.
Ahh, another day, another car that’s supposed to be unveiled at Geneva. And another leak. This time Porsche themselves, intentionally or not, spilled the details on the 2011 Cayenne SUV. It was leaked on the Porsche website in the above pic and has since been taken down. But we still got it.
The Porsche Panamera is one of the most powerful sedans in the world, which also makes it one of he least fuel efficient. Not any more: Porsche has introduced a direct injected V6, which manages to bring the Panamera to a respectable 30 mpg — and that’s from a 300HP 3.6 liter V6! The only bummer: the price. $75,000.
Porsche announced the GT3 R Hybrid yesterday, where the car would be powered by a normal engine in the back, plus tow electric motors in the front. Here’s the first video of the car in action — sadly though, without sound
Not the first time that we’ve covered the Porsche 2010 911 Turbo S, and it won’t be the last. The last article didn’t have a price, so I thought I’d give it to you. You ready? It’s $199,597.
Dang! Well, what do you expcet from a twin-turbocharged boxer-6 engine that generates 530hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. It also has the seven-speed Porsche Double-Clutch Gearbox (PDK) which gives drive power to the Porsche Traction Management (PTM). It also has Launch Control on the Sport Chrono Package Turbo, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds.
