The first thing you think of when you hear of the DeLorean Motor Company is most likely the Back to the Future series where their DMC-12 was used as the iconic time machine. Well, the company ceased to exist due to bankrupcty but if recent rumors are to be believed it may be looking to make a comeback with the Pontiac Solstice in tow.

These rumors come from the above rendering that shows a Pontiac Solstice inspired vehicle manufactured by the DeLorean Motor Company. Further kindle was added to the fire by reports that the company got their hands on a Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe for evaluation.

If recent reports are to be believed we may be seeing a police cruiser based on the late and great Pontiac G8 get unveiled at some point on Monday, October 5th. Make note that back in April we told you that GM would be killing off the Pontiac brand by 2011 but perhaps one of its models will live on.

The reason we point to Monday as its assumed release is because that is when the International Association of Chiefs of Police convention will go down in Denver, CO.

Of course, GM hasn’t actually said that this new cop car would be based on the G8 so until they do we will stamp this as a rumor.

We’ve known about the GM/eBay partnership since early last month but haven’t heard much about its progress since. Today, however, we have some concrete details on when exactly the program will go live.

It seems that GM is gearing up to launch a trial of the program tomorrow through September 8th in California thanks to 225 of their dealerships whom will be participating. Included in this new car auction campaign are Chevrolet, Pontiac, GMC and Buick models which you can bid on by going to gm.ebay.com or chevy.ebay.com. Of course, those two websites won’t go live until tomorrow when the program is officially set to.

If this program proves to be in GM’s best interest I see no reason why the automaker wouldn’t launch it nationwide.

Not all people may remember this car scene (video below) from the Matrix Reloaded movie which saw actor Laurence Fishburne land on the hood of this 1967 Pontiac Firebird. The scene was during that highway chase and now, some lucky winner may get the chance to win this car at an auction made possible by Auction Cause and Donorschoose.org.

Despite being killed off late last month Pontiac has managed to outfit 35,038 G8 2008 and 2009 sedans with faulty engineering. All 35,058 G8s are being recalled for following two reasons.

First of all, Pontiac says that the brake pedal position switch may have been incorrectly programmed potentially leaving the brake lamps lit up even when the brake pedal isn’t pressed. All sorts of chaos could have ensued had the problem not been found.

Second, Pontiac points towards the tire pressure monitoring systems which could have also been improperly programmed. In a nut shell, the improper programming could potentially lead the system unable to identify under inflated tires leading to all sorts of problems.

Pontiac says that G8 owners should head to their local dealerships starting on June 8th to remedy the problem.

It was truly a sad thing to see the beloved Pontiac fall victim to a crappy economy and now GM has announced that some of their high performance models are too.

As reported by KickingTires, the Pontiac G6 GXP sporting a beefed up V6 engine will not be seeing a 2010 model as previously announced. Also, just as they canceled the Cobalt SS sedan yesterday, the Impala SS HHR SS Panel will also be cut from the 2010 release schedule. And lastly, good old Cadillac will have to say goodbye to their STS-V, announcing it won’t make a return in 2010.

I just wonder, will these cars be reintroduced once the economy makes a turn for the better? Or will they just remain a mere memory?

The poor economy claims another victim — GM has recently announced that they are currently working towards eliminating their Pontiac brand, a brand that has been around for a full 83 years. This means that the rumors we heard about a few days ago are true.

Recent buyers of a Pontiac automobile need not worry as exec Jim Hopson has said that the company will continue to function just as always even though they won’t within the next 5 years. He then went on to say that these automobiles will still be under warranty and that GM will continue to produce Pontiac parts.

Seeing the company that pushed out cars such at the GTO, Firebird, and Trans-Am die marks a sad day for American muscleheads everywhere.

If reports hold true, we may be seeing the official demise of the Pontiac. General Motors has reportedly decided to pull the plug on the classic vehicle line, a sign which clearly shows that GM is in a deep hole. General Motors is preparing to announce that the Pontiac car brand, once marketed as GM’s “Excitement division,” will be killed off, according to a source familiar with the decision.

An official announcement is expected Monday. GM spokesman Jim Hopson declined to comment on Pontiac’s fate, saying the automaker has no announcements to make at this time.

In its most recent “viability plan” – which will be updated to reflect this new brand cut – Pontiac was not named as one of GM’s four “core brands.” Those are Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac. But Pontiac was also not to be killed or sold off, as were Saturn, Saab and Hummer. Instead Pontiac was to continue on as a “niche brand” focusing on just a few models.

That was already a step down for Pontiac which, in 2008, was the third-best selling brand behind Chevrolet and GMC. That year the brand sold more than Cadillac and twice as many vehicles as Buick. Cadillac is a high-profile – and high profit – luxury brand while Buick is a hugely popular brand in China and is seen as seen as resurgent in the U.S.

Today’s Pontiac is part of GM’s Buick-Pontiac-GMC brand channel, created in 2002, with the plan being that all three brands would be sold in combined dealerships. GMC would, as always, sell trucks and SUVs, Buick would sell value-oriented luxury models and Pontiac would sell less expensive, fun-to-drive cars.

In a marketing move, General Motors has reportedly combine three of its most recognized brands; Buick, Pontiac and GMC into one sales and marketing channel – which means many dealers, who had one or two of the brands previously, will now sell all three under one roof. GM says each brand will play to its strengths – Buick larger, premium cars; Pontiac sportier cars; and GMC pickups, SUV’s and Crossovers. This will create a middle sales channel, between GM’s global value brand Chevrolet and its high-end luxury brand, Cadillac.

At the 2009 New York International Auto Show, GMC debuted two new models. The all-new 2010 Terrain is a five-passenger crossover SUV that blends bold styling with fuel efficiency and premium features. The all-new 2009 Yukon Denali Hybrid was also unveiled. A luxurious, full-size SUV that seats eight, it tows up to 5,800 pounds and achieves and estimated 21 miles per gallon in city driving, thanks to the patented 2-mode hybrid system.

The Yukon Denali Hybrid arrives in May in dealer showrooms. It joins the Yukon Hybrid and the Sierra Hybrid pickup truck in the hybrid lineup, making GMC the first manufacturer to offer three full-size hybrid models.

The best thing to expect right now as far as new cars scheduled to be available in the market is concerned, is to see if they will really come out at all. Thank the financial crunch for all of it. A lot of the lined-up concept cars seem to be put on hold as major car companies are trying to find ways to make it through these rough economic times.

General Motors, a prime figure in the celebrated auto bailout issue, has reportedly cancelled the production of the Pontiac “sport truck”. Despite promising figures shown by GM Holden bosses, it is apparent that the proper assessment of the economy at the moment has become the main reason for placing the ultimate boy toy with a six-litre V8 engine on the shelf.

“Carmakers in the US are being especially hard hit due to the global financial crisis and the sports truck is unfortunately one of the casualties,” Senator Carr said. “The US economy is considerably weaker today, than it was when the sports truck was launched early last year.”

Are you ready for SEMA? Pontiac sure is and it has a wild concept for it. The Pontiac Solstice has bee seen before at the Sostice Weekend Club Racer back in 2005. The Solstice GXP-R has been seen in 2006. The Solstice SD-290 concept was shown last year.

Well Pontiac how do I tell you this… Your 2009 Pontiac G3 Wave is right down to Earth ugly. I mean couldn’t you convince your God, General Motors not to approve it? But then again, that’s what expensive fuel makes out of cars!

In the press release they say “More than ever, fuel economy is an important factor in Pontiac’s formula of style and performance.”

The G3 Wave will get you 106 horsepowers and you can choose from a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic. It will get you some 30 mpg which isn’t that bad. However, I wouldn’t date this car if it was the last one available in the whole known universe and beyond.

Next year’s Pontiac G8 GXP is going to get you an extra 13 horses and 15 lbs.-ft. of torque which means you will get a total of 415 horsepowers out of that 6.2 liter LS3 V8 engine. There are 19 inch HSV wheels framing 14 inch in the front and 12.76 inch in the rear discs and Brembo calipers. There’s a standard LSD and a stiffened suspension to go along with that extra power.

The US economy is hurtin’, and it’s no secret, so GM has decided to do something in an attempt to stir up some sales.

Celebrating their 100th Anniversary, GM has lowered the prices of it’s entire lineup of 2008 models along with a select few 2008 models, this includes Chrysler, Saab, HUMMER, Saturn, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, and GMC, to match employee pricing.
