The last we heard of the Mitsubishi PX-MiEV concept was when it was rumored to be lending its drive train to the Lancer Evolution XI. Today the car has been shown off during the Tokyo Motor Show and we have finally have some solid specs.

The car will feature 2 electric motors producing 82 hp and 200Nm of torque and will be coupled with a 1.6-liter engine good for 116hp and 125Nm of torque. Thanks to this combination, in addition to regenerative braking, you’ll be looking at a none-too-bad 117 mpg.

When exactly we will see if PX-MiEV hit dealerships, if ever, is still a mystery.

If we’re talking rally car inspired consumer vehicles two models almost always come to mind; the Subaru Impreza WRX and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The WRX is a nice car but for now we’re going to focus on the Evo as recent reports have surfaced that suggest the vehicle’s next iteration will feature plug-in technology.

Mitsubishi recently showed off the above Concept PX-MiEV at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show which is nothing more than an all electric SUV. However, the real treat comes from rumors that Mitsubishi is planning on using this vehicle’s drivetrain in the Lancer Evolution XI.

There isn’t much more information regarding this new Evo but our sources say it is expected to hit the market by 2013.

Qatar Automobiles has announced the all new 2009 Mitsubishi Pajero Sports today, offering an ideal vehicle for the family. The 2009 Mitsubishi Pajero Sports features a 7 seat vehicle bundled with power and performance that should be suited for its class. The Mitsubishi Pajero has been a familiar vehicle for off-road and large family use and this new offering should provide another option for people looking at SUV vehicles in the market. Okay, we’re all looking for some really big news to bust out of the Frankfurt Auto Show, so let’s sail right into the news we’re expecting to hear:

Mercedes-Benz plans to show a hydrogen-powered fuel cell version of the B-class.  It’s the first such production car to offer this, and the first two hundred will be available for purchase in early 2010.

Toyota is presenting an electric plug-in version of the Prius, as we’ve already mentioned here.

Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi are all out of the show, citing cost containment measures.

General Motors / Opel  is showing the new Astra compact..

Renault, a name you don’t hear often, will be showing the Megane and some new electric concept vehicles.

And of course, there’s lots more news afoot, but from the sounds of things, the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show is going to be a doozy of a show, with plenty to see and do and talk about.

Currently, the most publicized extended-range all-electric vehicle is the Chevy Volt. Everyone is making it out the be the most revolutionary car the world has ever seen. However, Mitsubishi may be looking to give GM a run for their money as they too are reportedly working on an extended-range all-electric vehicle.

Apparantly, Mitsubishi’s extended-range EV will be based on the cX concept that was showcased back in 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

If you don’t know what an extended-range EV is, it’s essentially just an all-electric vehicle that uses gasoline to replenish the car’s battery once it runs out of juice. So yes, you’re still using gasoline but it’s not used to actually power the car directly, instead it powers the battery that then powers the car.

If you think the Mitsubishi iMiEV was the only vehicle Mitsubishi planned to release in the electric car market, then guess again! Today, Mitsubishi has bared that the iMiEV is only the start of their electric car revolution. The Japanese-based car company plans to unveil 5 more electric car vehicles by 2013.

Among the highlights of the next cars on Mitsubishi’s agenda include:

1. a left-hand-drive i-MiEV by the 2010 fiscal year for the European market
2. an electric commercial vehicle in the 2010 fiscal year
3. a larger electric car
4. a sportier version of the i-MiEV
5. a plug-in hybrid S.U.V. by the 2013 fiscal year

Whoa! Just when you thought that Mitsubishi was pinning its hopes on the iMiEV, this comes out. Now it seems interesting on what these additional electric cars would have to offer. While the iMiEV’s pricing was already bared ($45,600), you have to wonder how much these next cars would cost.

If you ask the motorists, they are surely counting on something cheaper. These cars really cost a fortune!

Everyone wants to turn to electric vehicle technology but look a bit farther and you may find it an innovation far from being the solution to the transportation problems we face today. Easier said than done, electric vehicles still lack the support of being powered, particularly since one time charges can only go to a certain mile.

In case you don’t know what the BS IV certification is, it stands for Bharath Stage IV, referring to the emission norms set by Automobile Research Association. And with that said, the Mitsubishi Outlander has now safely used this certification to classify its popular SUV in India as eco-friendly which is sure to entice a lot of attention as far as the turn towards eco-friendly vehicles in the world today.

Mitsubishi just released word yesterday that they have begun production of their all electric iMiEV and already, presumably to stirr up hype, the company has release pictures of an actual production model.

That’s not all as Mitsubishi has also clarified that commerical and government buyers will be able to get their hands on the iMiEV in July while actual retail customers won’t be able to get their hands on until next April.

The real bummer here, however, is that before tax breaks the little car pictures above will be priced at ¥4,380,000 or around $45,500. After a ¥1,390,000 tax break, however, AutoBlogGreen reports the car will be bumped down to a more reasonable $31,000. Still, is anyone besides the filthy rich willing to spend over $30,000 for the little car pictured above?

Do you remember Mitsubishi’s iMiEV? The vehicle that looked kind of like a smart car except it was powered entirely by electricity?

Well, Mitsubishi has announced today that they have begun producing the car and hoipe to build 2,000 before the end of this fiscal year. As for next year, Mitsubishi is hoping to increase production of the iMiEV to 5,000.

For those who don’t know, Mitsubishi is saying that the iMiEV can get around 100 miles per charge and is in the ballpark of $31,000. Then again, that price is what is expected if the iMiEV ever makes its way to American shores.

Many automakers offer freebies to boost sales, and occasionally, people even give away luxury cars to encourage sales. However, Mitsubishi New Zealand has a very different take on the situation by offering a goat with every sale of the Triton. This offer is indeed unusual, but the guys have a press release to back it up, and even that sounds humorous:

Goat’s milk provides a nutritious alternative for the growing number of lactose intolerant people and while goat meat is seldom featured in Western restaurants, developing countries consume vast quantities,” said Mr Wilkins. “And, most importantly, there is no such thing as Goat Flu – so no threat to tourism. It’s hard to see a downside,” he added. “At MMNZ, we are aware that three years of drought has severely depleted sheep and beef populations, so what better time to ‘float the goat’?” said Mr Wilkins. “We’ll supply a free goat with every Triton sold before August and do our bit to loosen the grip of the recession”. “On the off chance that the purchaser already has enough goats or feels that goat herding is better left to those in drier climes, we’ll supply a ‘no goat package’ consisting of a five-year/100,000km extended warranty, five free WOF inspections, 5,000km road user charges, five years of roadside assistance and $500 of genuine or approved Triton accessories,” Mr Wilkins said.

It has been touted as the fastest Lancer Evolution ever released and it looks like based on the car specs, the new Mitsubishi X FQ-400 Lancer Evolution should indeed live up to its billing.

Armed with a 2.0 litre turbo charged MIVEC (“Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control”) petrol engine, the new Lancer Evolution promises to deliver 403bhp and 387lb.ft of torque and will help the car to reach a 0-62mph of 3.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

Now that is speed for you. The Lancer Evolution series is perhaps one of the marquee lines that has kept Mitsubishi in circulation and hopefully this new vehicle can place some semblance that the Japan-based manufacturer is still around the car industry picture.

Mitsubishi has been sorely losing from its adversaries like Toyota and Honda and is now obviously overtaken by Hyundai and Nissan. While it has been a familiar icon in the car industry, its line of cars have been least interesting in the market due to issues surrounding maintenance and of course the price tag.

But now, the Mitsubishi X FQ-400 should set some records straight. The new Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 has been given a hefty price tag of £49,999 and will be available this June. It is interesting to see if this car can really jack it up once again!

After months of speculation, the concept car that everyone was talking about from Mitsubishi is finally a reality. Ending months of heightening speculation, Mitsubishi Motors North America President and CEO Shinichi Kurihara confirmed the i MiEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle) is being developed for sale in world markets, including the United States.

“Electric vehicles are one branch of the automotive landscape and we are dedicated to providing these technology-sourced solutions as an important path for the world’s clean-air options,” explained Kurihara, who stood alongside a Left Hand Drive i MiEV during his address to journalists at the New York International Auto Show. “We believe the i MiEV delivers on the promise of sustainability, suitable range, performance, and innovative packaging and styling.”

The award-winning Mitsubishi i MiEV is expected to be the world’s first practical electric vehicle offered by a major automobile manufacturer when fleet sales begin this July in Japan.
