I ask you, ladies and gentlemen (because I know both of you read this blog even if you keep mum about it much of the time) what exactly is the point of this new device I found from Mercedes-Benz called the Airscarf?

The Airscarf is actually about what it sounds like, in that it’s a heater port that’s up near your neck, and is designed to blow a continuous stream of warm air down and around your neck.  Like a scarf made of air.  Air. Scarf.  Airscarf.

I mean, I understand that it’s Mercedes-Benz.  It has a reputation for luxury surpassing most others and those it doesn’t surpass outright it’s in direct competition with.  But a hot air port designed to blow hot air around your neck?  I know from experience that, most of the time, I wind up shutting my car heater off after a few minutes anyway because that dry heat on my face gets almost painful after a while.  But to have it blowing constantly around my neck?

That’s one gadget I’d love to be able to shut off after a while, Mercedes luxury or no.

I have to admit that the Expression Motorsport ML63 AMG isn’t what springs to my mind when I think of a Mercedes, but this one is an automobile anyone wouldn’t mind driving.

I can’t help but think of an SUV when I see this. That, or a Subaru Forrester. Anyone else want to chime in with a comment and let us know what it reminds them of?

Prepare to be amazed at this movie trailer that appears to be about a flying Volga sedan versus a flying Mercedes. Don’t worry if you can’t understand Russian, and don’t know what the actors are saying. I believe that the title of this film is Black Lightning, and it would be a great shame if it was not released worldwide. This movie looks like Knight Rider on crack.

Apparently, there is a leak. In this case, it is this new 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cabrio. As far as can be told by the first glimpses of this, this convertible roof is made of fabric, not like the folding hard-tops of other companies.

Well, these are the first shots, but they won’t be the last, so we’ll see what else is in store for this cabrio.

Cash for Clunkers may be dead and gone but that doesn’t mean the government is going to stop giving out incentives for those who chose the green route. The latest announcement is regarding the Mercedes-Benz S400 which has the ability to net you up to $1,150 worth of tax credits.

The reason for this incentive is the IRS’ Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit which gives out tax credit for energy efficient cars. And, since the S400 features a whole slew of energy efficient technologies like regenerative braking and a lithium-ion battery in additino to its EPA rating of 19mpg city and 26mpg highway it makes sense why you would get such a credit.

Mercedes is going to bring safety to a whole new level with its new concept car. The prototype is supposed to brake automatically whenever it spots the red light. That happens even if you’re still pressing firmly against the gas pedal. I bet such a car would play a terrible part in a movie involving car chasing and running a few red lights on the way.

How does it work? Well the car communicates with the light and thus it’s able to brake if you don’t intend to. Sure the car will warn you that the light is red before pressing the brake for you. In order for the whole communication to take place the stoplights should be upgraded so every intersection becomes a smart one. And that’s how this Mercedes would be able to star in its own car chase movie (of course the team supporting the driver should rig the stoplights to show only green lights…)

The technology will be available in the following years to come so in the mean time make sure you don’t run any red lights!

Mercedes-Benz is currently considering whether or not to start making its popular C-Class sedans right in Vance, Alabama. The plant is already responsible for making the M, GL and R-Class so the German giant could definitely make the C-Class at Vance too. Let’s not forget that Mercedes poured $290 million into the expansion of the plant earlier this year but never said what the purpose of the investment was.

And if you’re reading this from Sindelfingen, Germany, the current home of the C-Class then you should know Mercedes plans to save all those 3,000 jobs by shifting SL production from Bremen to Sidelfingen. And don’t worry Bremen Mercedes builders, your jobs will be saved too. It looks like the it’s a win-win-win situation but we’ll see more once Mercedes-Benz goes public with the changes!

If you’ve got the money then this 2010 Brabus Mercedes-Benz Viano Lounge will offer you the interior of your dreams. The car seems to have everything you need inside a car to make the journey as fun and as pleasant as possible. Sure you’ll also need a driver but that shouldn’t be a problem if you can afford the car in the first place.

Inside the care you’ll find a 32-inch LCD TV, Sony Vaio notebooks waiting to be used, PlayStation 3, which I hope it’s a Slim, a Nespresso machine and a Vertu Constellation phone.

There aren’t any available information regarding pricing for now but we don’t expect this Benz to be anywhere within our reach!

Just as the Mercedes S400 is set to be shipped to U.S. dealers, Mercedes Benz has unveiled another future model in the Mercedes S500 Vision Plug-in Hybrid at the Frankfurt Auto Show. With the eventual coming of this new hybrid Mercedes vehicle, expect the Mercedes S500 to invade the luxury hybrid ring soon.

The S500 features economical fuel consumption, burning only 3.2 liters for every 100 KMS. Add as well the lower CO2 emissions for something as big as the S500 and a V6 petrol engine with fuel injection and you get the flexibility due from luxury hybrid cars today.

From the looks of it, while we are praising the coming of the S400, the S500 looks promising as well. The only difference is we don’t have an idea when it would come out or how much this would cost in the market.

Now honestly, who doesn’t love Mercedes-Benzs? More importantly, hybrid Mercedes-Benzs? Lucky for us, it was recently made known that the S400 Hybrid has in fact begun shipping to US dealerships and is now available for purchase.

The S400 Hybrid reportedly gets 19mpg/26mpg for city/highway respectively which is none too bad considering the car features a 3.5-liter 6 cylinder engine. Don’t expect to drive this vehicle off the lot for cheap, however, as it starts at $87,950.

The Frankfurt Motor Show offerings continue to get better and this ones directed right at you soccer moms out there with the need for speed. Pictured above is the 2010 Mercedes E63 AMG Wagon. As you can see, the car is a station wagon but that doesn’t stop it from being absolutely fierce.

The car is said to feature a 6.3 liter 8 cylinder engine capable of a staggering 525hp. The only bummer? It will probably never see the light of day in North America.

Okay, we’re all looking for some really big news to bust out of the Frankfurt Auto Show, so let’s sail right into the news we’re expecting to hear:

Mercedes-Benz plans to show a hydrogen-powered fuel cell version of the B-class.  It’s the first such production car to offer this, and the first two hundred will be available for purchase in early 2010.

Toyota is presenting an electric plug-in version of the Prius, as we’ve already mentioned here.

Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi are all out of the show, citing cost containment measures.

General Motors / Opel  is showing the new Astra compact..

Renault, a name you don’t hear often, will be showing the Megane and some new electric concept vehicles.

And of course, there’s lots more news afoot, but from the sounds of things, the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show is going to be a doozy of a show, with plenty to see and do and talk about.

You’d think that luxury car makers these days would just suck up their losses, start praying for good times to come back, and in the meantime try and crank up the “afforable luxury” line of models, but not at BMW, Daimler and Mercedes, among others.

They’re counting on the initial reports of “modest global recovery” to get started, and get started SOON.  To that end, they’re planning to release a slew of new models in the hope of catching that modest recovery in its initial stages and riding it back up to profitability.

Pardon me for a bit of skepticism–even if there’s a “modest global recovery”, do they really think it’s going to be enough to support a huge array of new luxury cars, in a time when people have to be spurred on by government incentives to buy a car?

This move might just come back on them.

Sure Mercedes has come forth in the past to say that they are in fact working on the 2010 SLS AMG but they haven’t released very many details or official images of the vehicle. Today however, they have done just that, as you can see above.

Under the hood the car is said to have a 6.3-liter V8 capable of 563HP and 480 pounds-per-feet of torque. Couple that with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and you get a sprint from 0 to 60 in just 3.7 seconds nad a top speed of 197.

We’ll have to wait until the Frankfurt Motor Show next week to hear more of the 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG.
