Mazda has unveiled a Special Edition MX-5, which sports a matte black paint job, and that’s about it. The car still sports the same, 2.0 liter engine which chugs out 167 HP. No news on how many matte black colored MX-5s Mazda will produce, or their price.

According to Autoblog, Volvo is set to introduce their own compact crossover, based on the C30. The new car, called XC30, will be slightly taller and more spacious inside. This doesn’t come as no surprise, as many of Volvo’s competitors already have similar cars on the market.

According to a new report, the next generation of Volkswagen Beetle is said to be released next year. The new version will have an updated exterior which will still look a lot like the classic Beetle — just the way it should be. The car is expected to go on sale in May 2011, with an unveiling later this year.

According to new rumors, the Rolls-Royce Phantom will be getting a complete overhaul in 2016, a good 13 years after it was first released in 2003. By any stretch, that’s a long time for a car without any major updates, but not for the Phantom, apparently.

A few days ago we let you know you know of some rumored prices of the forthcoming Nissan LEAF EV. Well, today the automaker has announced that their Sunderland production plan in the UK will begin making the car in 2013.

Nissan then goes on to say that the plant has the ability to produce 50,000 cars a year.

This is big news for UK consumers who are looking to purchase the LEAF EV. Now Nissan just needs to get it into the hands of those consumers.

It seems that some people are trying to exploit and benefit from the whole recall ordeal going on over at Toyota. One driver in New York City apparantly had a Prius suffering from the break problem and proceeded to crash. However, the NHSTA is reporting something different. They are saying that computer data from the crashed Prius is saying that the throttle was open and the driver was not using the breaks. This leads us to believe that the driver crashed the car on purpose most likely to enter into a lawsuit with Toyota and hopefully come out with some money.

But who would do that?

This might be one of the most interesting things GM is working on, a HUD which fills the whole windscreen, which offers lots of cools stuff, even argumented reality features.

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has revealed that their newly released SUV in Japan, the ASX, has sold a whopping three times more than they expected it to sell. Apparently, the Japanese consumers got decent tax breaks by buying the car, plus of course that ASX was well received among industry analysts and reviewers in Japan.

There was some rumor that BMW would be releasing a new class beneath the 1-series cars, a new, cheap entry version with front wheel drive. Now BMW has confirmed the news, with company boss Robert Reithofer confirming: “We are exploring the possibility of developing a joint architecture for the front and four-wheel drive systems of these cars. In other words: There will be front-wheel drive BMWs in the smaller vehicle classes in the future.” Perhaps a 0 series?

While F1 has the stunning Mercedes SLS AMG as its pace car, the NASCAR folks are going with something more common: A Ford Mustang. While it’s the least powerful Mustang, with a 3.7 liter V6 and 305 Hp, it’s more than enough to keep the 100 MPH or so pace to keep the herd of NASCARs at bay.

The Honda CR-Z only just entered into production this past January and is already showing promise. Honda has just reported almost 8,000 vehicles have been sold in less than 3 weeks on the Japanese market. Currently, Honda predicts to sell between 40,000 – 50,000 CR-Zs worldwide. However, with this unforeseen critical acclaim they are sure to be spiking that number up a bit. Of course, that’s if the rest of the world takes to the Honda CR-Z like Japan has.

We’ll have to wait and see.
