I’m sure that you have heard about the Chevy Volt, that runs in on all electric power. Therefore, it is quieter than most cars. So quiet, that GM has put a “chirp” feature on this that is not quite a horn, yet enough to let people know that your quiet car is on the way. So, will the “chirp” replace honking the horn? Well, as long as it is much quieter, why not?

BMW is actually planning on putting out an electric version of the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Personally, I don’t consider that a wise investment, as most people prefer to have their Phantom as a “showing” vehicle rather than a roadtrip vehicle. Believe it or not, it might be out of the factory in 12 months.

See that nice looking yellow car there? That is the LF-Ch concept car from Lexus, on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The general manager of Lexus, Mark Templin, has stated that Lexus is “seriously considering bringing a production version of the hatchback to the U.S. market”. Ferrari is planning on making an update of the 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE with the 599 GTO. The little GTO will have 700 HP, with a V12 engine with a design reminiscent of the 599X concept car. Like it? Well, there’s only 500 to be made, at a price of $400,000.

This just in. Apparently, Jim Frederico, chief engineer for Buick has just said in a press conference that the new Buick Regal with have an option for manual transmission. This is similar to the Opel Insignia manual transmission, that you see above. So, will this be a trend amongst the Buicks? We will see.

Apparently, acceleration is an issue with these new Toyotas, as drivers have been stepping on the gas a little too much. This is really a design issue, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Association is looking into shortening the gas pedal. This fix would be done at no cost to the customer, and would affect 4 million vehicles.

I’m going to assume that this is part of Chrysler’s 5-year plan, but they intend to be the number one leader in quality sometime in the next three years. As of one year ago, Chrysler had 200 people on its quality team, and it plans on hiring 200 additional members to get its quality team to 1,700 heads.

Whoa! An automotive company that is hiring? Why that’s a quality step if I’ve ever heard one.

Jay Leno has had this timed trial race with an electric car since his new show began, and I suppose that he is the perfect spokesperson for the electric Tango. This car is designed to only take up half a lane, and is totally electric.

Jay didn’t crack any obvious jokes about the car’s small size, but remarked that it didn’t feel so small once he was behind the wheel. The Tango is only capable of 40 miles at highway speeds now, but future efforts are hoping to bring it up to 200 miles.

This model is a little different than the one in the States, but with 171 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque, who cares? it is available in three equipment grades: LC3, LC4, and LC5 with a £29,795 price tag.

For 11 out of 12 years, the Camry has been the best selling car in the United States. Toyota’s president Jim Lentz is thinking green when it comes to the next best-seller. Apparently, he sees the Prius sales passing Camry sales in the not-so-near future. As it is, the Prius isn’t even Toyota’s second best-selling vehicle. I suppose time will tell if we really are the hybrid nation that we want to be.

I had a chance to try out Zipcar’s interesting service the other day, and it stands to reason that there are imitators. It would appear that Smart is going to start Car2go, a car-sharing program in Texas.

De Tomaso lives again as a wealthy Italian industrialist named Gian Mario Rossingnolo has purchased a Pininfarina factory, presumably to build new De Tamasos. Rumor has it that Rossingnolo is planning on a making a luxury sedan, a coupe, and an SUV. Well, we will see them at the Geneva Motor show come next year.
