According to the latest reports, the Audi A8 W12 and S8 will be no more after the 2009 model year. The same fate has befallen the VR6 V6 engine. The decision to get rid of the VR6 appears to be an easy one, according to Edmunds.com, as it is old technology that uses a narrow V-angle and lacks direct injection.
Dropping the uncommon A8 W12 and V10-powered S8 is a blow to fans of excess and offbeat technology. The S6 and the R8 V10 will remain in production but a big sporty sedan in Audi’s lineup will be vacant in the 2010 model year.
