Volkswagen Polo Cup “Double bill”: youngsters fight for mid-point title
Wolfsburg -- The first decisions in the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup are coming up: at races four and five at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz (16 -18 May) not only winners’ trophies are at stake, but, first and foremost, the leading positions in the overall and the rookie classifications.
The reason is that the two "mid-point champions” of the junior racing series will be able to participate in the international Volkswagen exchange programme for "motorsport students”.

Volkswagen Offers College Money with Routan Minivan Purchase
HERNDON, Va. -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced today a partnership with Upromise, the country's largest private source of college funding contributions, to provide $1,500 to customers who purchase or lease a new 2009 Routan for their child's future education savings.

D.C. United and Volkswagen Ink Sponsorship Agreement
WASHINGTON -- D.C. United and Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced a five-year partnership agreement that will see the two brands join forces in a landmark deal that includes Volkswagen's logo on the shirts of the most successful team in the history of American professional soccer.

Volkswagen Rabbit Ranked Best in Test of Affordable Hatchbacks
YONKERS, N.Y. -- The Volkswagen Rabbit emerged as Consumer Reports' top-rated affordable hatchback following tests of six vehicles for the June issue. The Rabbit outpointed CR's previously top-rated hatchback, the Mazda3.
"With agile handling and a versatile, well-finished interior, the Rabbit feels solid and is a pleasant car to drive," said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center in East Haddam, Connecticut. "The Rabbit has commendable fit and finish, a versatile interior, and agile handling."

Race Scirocco in its element on the track
Wolfsburg -- The new Volkswagen Scirocco race version, the road-going version of which is launched on the market in autumn, was immediately in its element around the demanding Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
Volkswagen factory driver Dieter Depping (D) completed extensive tests on Monday, 5 May through the "Grüne Hölle” in the Eifel region with the 300 hp Scirocco.

Top twenty best selling small cars for April 2008
Americans rediscovered cars in April 2008, with small cars in particular accounting for nearly one in five of all vehicles sold in an otherwise down month.
Toyota had four vehicles in the top twenty, General Motors had three; Nissan, Hyundai and Kia had two apiece. And Dodge has a hit with the Caliber, which made the list at number 9.
With people paying nearly $4 per gallon of gas nationwide, it appears that the free market has achieved what environmentalists have been clamoring about for years -- to conserve fuel by buying smaller vehicles.

Wolfsburg -- On the podium at his home race: Volkswagen driver Edoardo Mortara defended his lead in the Formula 3 Euro Series at Mugello, clinching positions four and three.
At the first four of 20 races the 21-year-old from the Volkswagen Signature team captured as many as three podium places and is heading the overall standings with an equal points score together with the Finn Mika Mäki (Mercedes-Dallara).

Volkswagen Reports April 2008 Sales Up Over Last Year
HERNDON, Va. -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced April 2008 sales of 19,415 units, a 1.7 percent increase over the April 2007 sales of 19,086 vehicles. On a year-to-date basis, 2008 Volkswagen sales are 0.8 percent ahead of 2007 sales through April.
A sign that spring is definitely in the air is Volkswagen's innovative coupe-convertible-sunroof Eos posted its best sales month ever with sales of 1,663 units, representing a 45.6 percent increase over April 2007.

Volkswagen’s new Racing Scirocco passes the test
Wolfsburg -- The racing version of the new Volkswagen Scirocco has successfully taken its first hurdle. Hans-Joachim Stuck, Dieter Depping, Francois Verbist and Thomas Mutsch completed a comprehensive endurance test with the 300-hp Scirocco at the Motorsport Arena at Oschersleben.
The tests with the coupé that will be delivered to dealerships as a production model in autumn of 2008 served to prepare for the 24-Hour Race at the Nürburgring (23 -25 May), which Volkswagen will contest with three Scirocco cars. The Racing Scirocco’s roll-out had taken place at the Spreewaldring near Cottbus on 14 April.

Mark Pombo wins inaugural Jetta TDI Cup race
ALTON, VA. – In its worldwide debut, the first Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup race was held Sunday at VIRginia International Raceway, with rising star Mark Pombo crossing the finish line after completing 11 laps in the 30-minute sprint race.
With a best lap time of 2:15.686 Pombo, 25, from Duluth, GA., raced against 28 other up-and-coming drivers to secure his win in the race.

Formula 3 Euro Series at Mugello: Volkswagen teams well prepared
