Chrysler to Get In-Car Internet
But of course it will come with a fee. $499 just for the Uconnect equipment, $50 to get that equipment installed, $35 dollars to get that equipment activated, and finally $29 a month to use that equipment.
Who else can sense a law that prohibits using the internet while driving just around the corner?

Car Buyers Downsize, but Spend Big on Options
DETROIT -- Consumers used to buy small cars for a simple reason: they were cheap. A decade ago, many budget-minded shoppers turned down even options like air-conditioning, power windows and compact disc players to keep the price low. Now people of all income levels are buying small cars to pinch pennies at the gas pump, but they are not scrimping on creature comforts.
Instead, they are spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on options, like heated leather seats and high-end entertainment systems, usually found in luxury cars. Small-car buyers often pay $600 for a sunroof, $500 for satellite radio or $400 for a hands-free phone system. Some even spend $300 for colorful interior lights.

Carmakers adding digital radio
More carmakers are adding digital radio tuners in their bid to woo audiophiles and add electronics.
The latest is Hyundai, which this month will offer digital radio -- known as HD Radio -- in a package on its new Genesis sedan. Among others, BMW already offers an HD tuner as a stand-alone option, and Volvo is going to offer HD Radio standard on most models early next year.
"Some of the automakers known for innovation are picking up on this," says Diane Warren, executive vice president of the radio industry's HD Radio Alliance. "The rest of the industry will follow."
More than 1,700 AM and FM stations also broadcast an HD digital signal, as well as traditional analog signal, up from 11 in 2002, the alliance says. Because digital uses less of a station's allotted bandwidth, many also air second or third signals of specialized shows.

Originally used in the 1920s, Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937.

Volvo Offering Free Garmin Nav System with New Lease
Through March 31, 2008, Volvo is giving away a free Garmin nuvi 760 GPS portable nav system to customers who lease either an S80 sedan or the XC90 SUV.
The S80 lease offer is for $379 a month for 24 months, with $2,973 due at signing; the XC90 offer is for $399 a month for 24 months, with $2,993 due at signing.
We've had the opportunity to test the Garmin 760 and appreciate the easy to read 3.8" screen, which features bright, crisp graphics as well as an easy to understand female voice. We also liked the ability to pop the unit in and out of the specially designed holder that's seated on the Volvo's dash.
The nuvi 760 also acts as an MP3 player, and comes packaged with a coupon for 3 audiobooks from Audible.com.
Our favorite option, though, is the unit's ability to recalculate the current route -- which we were, ah, compelled to discover when we recently got lost leaving JFK Airport in Queens. In general, nav systems take the stress out of driving to and from unfamiliar destinations, and the nuvi 760 fits the bill, nicely.

Windhsield Wipers Can Save Your Life
HOUSTON -- With 90 percent of driving decisions based solely on vision, it is vital to have a clear, unobstructed view of the roadway.
A recent survey conducted by Rain-X found that 78 percent of motorists only change their wiper blades after the blades themselves begin to impair their visibility and become a potential safety hazard.
To raise awareness of the importance of driving visibility, Rain-X and automotive expert Barbara Terry have teamed up to kick-off the annual Seemore Safety Campaign.
The Campaign, a safe driving initiative now in its third year, is designed to remind motorists to use Groundhog Day as a yearly reminder to change their wiper blades.

Volvo XC70 -- Delivering You to Sport

Or you can view the car as the thing that enables you and your gear to get halfway up a frozen mountain in search of an extreme challenge.
As Johan Bexell, Sport Sponsoring Director at Volvo Cars says, "Volvo cars become an integrated part of your favourite adventures. That's what makes them the finest sports cars in the world."

In Praise of Preston Trombly, Sirius Radio's Classical Music DJ
While test driving cars over the last several years, I'm always excited to discover the vehicle has Sirius Satellite radio installed and activated.
When it does, I immediately set the station to Channel 80, known as "Symphony Hall," Sirius' home for classical music. Listening to classical in the car has its own benefits -- a refuge from the clatter of the day, stress relief while driving, and the sheer enjoyment of the content.
But I prefer Symphony Hall over any other classical station I've listened to over the years because of Preston Trombly, the weekday work time announcer.
I've never met the guy, but talk about a name made for classical radio! Did Preston go to prep school? Did Mr. Trombly practice the trombone as a tot? Who knows, the way the world surprises you, maybe he was actually born with that moniker and destiny led him to Sirius.

And that can lead to dangerous driving conditions," said Joerg Burfien, director of R & D, Continental Tire North American, Inc. "Since all-season and winter tires are about as similar as sandals and snowshoes, we've launched this program to encourage our customers to stay safer in winter by switching to Continental Winter Tires.
