The leader of the championship is youngster René Rast. The 21-year-old MRS Team PZ Aschaffenburg pilot contests just his second full Carrera Cup season, but already turned heads at the opening round in Hockenheim, where he secured pole position and the first win of the year.
Rast followed up on this victory with a second and sixth placing from the ensuing rounds.
Although Chris Mamerow and Nicolas Armindo also have 48 points to their credit, neither has at yet claimed a win. With Mamerow netting two second placings from the first two races and a fifth in Mugello, the Mamerow Racing PZ Essen pilot ranks second overall. Armindo, who competes for ARAXA RACING PZ Reutlingen, sits third after taking three third placings.
Trailing the top three by 16 points is Patrick Huisman (Netherlands) in fourth. The 41-year former DTM pilot contests his debut season in the national series for the Hermes Attempto Racing PZ Nürnberg team. Huisman is arguably one of the most experienced Porsche pilots. With four championship titles and a total of 24 race victories under his belt, the Dutchman holds an unparalleled record in the international Supercup. Sitting hot on his heels in fifth is Jiri Janak (Czech Republic). The 24-year-old law student drives for the Schnabl Engineering PZ Koblenz squad and currently holds 31 points. Following closely is Jan Seyffarth (Germany), who races for the SMS Seyffarth Motorsport stable this season. Holding 28 points he ranks sixth.
Positions seven and eight are occupied by Uwe Alzen and Joerg Hardt (both
Germany) respectively. Despite the two having only earned points once so far this season, they in fact won a round each and brought home the full tally of 20 points.
The Eurospeedway race takes off on Friday (16 May).
