Santa Cruz Golfer Wins Chrysler Club Championship Tournament
Naples, Fla. -- Golfers everywhere dream of hoisting a championship trophy overhead after sinking the winning putt at the end of a prestigious tournament.
For Sandy Woodruff of Santa Cruz, Calif., that dream became a reality when she won the national finals of the 2007 Chrysler Club Championship (CCC) amateur golf tournament on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Woodruff finished with a score of 74 in the first round and 76 in the second round. In her quest for victory, Woodruff represented Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Woodruff’s win in the CCC national finals tournament, held at Tiburón Golf Club and The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Fla., earned her the chance to play with PGA TOUR professionals and celebrities in the 2008 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic (BHCC) hosted by George Lopez on Jan. 14-20, 2008, in Palm Springs, Calif.
Supported by the Chrysler brand and its partner, Golf Digest Publications (Golf Digest, Golf Digest for Women, Golf World), the CCC is the fastest growing, most prestigious amateur golf event in the country. In 2007, the CCC, a stroke-play event designed for top male and female amateur golfers, expanded its reach to open the field to more than 1,200 clubs in the 48 continental United States. Woodruff beat more than 115,000 other amateur golfers to earn the CCC National Champion title and a roster spot in the PGA TOUR’s 2008 BHCC.
“The Chrysler brand is proud of its long affiliation with golf, which is a sport that reflects the character of both the brand and the millions of Chrysler owners,” said David Rooney, Director – Chrysler Brand Marketing and Global Communications. “It has been inspiring to watch the Chrysler Club Championship grow and see Sandy emerge from a field of over 115,000 local players. We congratulate Sandy on her outstanding performance and wish her luck in the 2008 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.”
2007 Chrysler Club Championship Highlights
In its fourth year, the 2007 Chrysler Club Championship had its share of highlights, including:
* A 70 percent growth in the number of participating clubs over 2006
* A 69 percent increase in the number of amateur golfers participating in the CCC over 2006
* The inaugural CCC Virtual Game national finals held in conjunction with the course competition
Chrysler has been affiliated with golf for most of its history. In fact, 2007 marks the 42nd anniversary of Chrysler’s participation in golf, which began when it first sponsored the Bob Hope Classic in 1965.
