Driving Mocs: Don't Forget the Podiatric Interface!
Driving enthusiasts understand that where their foot hits the pedal is a sensitive and even sensuous [!] point of contact.
If you really want to feel the machine underneath respond to the barest twitch of your heel and toe command, you need a pair of driving mocs.
Pictured here is the "Conway" shoe, from Allen Edmonds, that will provide you the following experience for a mere $200:
"A rich grain calfskin and suede combination set on a unique rubber driving sole with a contemporary square toe gives this driving moccasin an air of sophistication."
Marketing hyperbole aside, the key to a good pair of driving mocs is the sole. [Insert soul of shoe entendre here, if you please.]
You want a driving moc to be soft and supple, almost like a finely crafted leather sock, and for those of you who want to wear them on terra firma, you also need a fairly durable sole. There are brands out there, though, that are truly more like slippers, without a street-worthy sole, and are made for inside your ride exclusively.
The Allen-Edmonds Conway is a nice compromise indeed because it delivers a sheer contact between foot and pedal, and also acquit themselves nicely in those situations where you actually have to walk upright.
And with Father's Day coming, why don't you get something truly original, and useful for your D.O.D. [Dear Old Dad].
