Deportation from the Auto Industry Point of View

immigration.jpgThe im migration raids on the pallet manufacturer that resulted in 1,100 arrest of illegals should make laid off autoworkers, their unions and elected representatives sit up and take notice.

Even though these jobs aren't as complex or high paying as auto jobs, they are in the manufacturing sector. With tens of thousands of auto workers being laid off the premise that jobs held by immigrants wouldn't be taken by Americans may not hold water.

In other words, any job is better than no job.

Now, if 1,100 jobs can be freed up with one raid on one company, how many jobs are out there for the fired autoworkers? This is a serious situation and while I haven't seen anyone else write about this, it seems obvious to me. My personal politics is that I believe in amnesty for illegals, but thinking about it from this point of view makes me seriously reconsider who these jobs should go to.
