EPA Lightens Up On Diesels
The Environmental Protection Agency will relax particulate emission standards for diesel cars in an effort to increase the number of diesel-powered vehicles on the road.
According to The Wall Street Journal, "The EPA said that over time, the new standards will be better for the environment because automakers that opt for the exemption will be required to engineer their cars to stay clean longer."
Diesel manufacturers said this narrow exemption is a big step in the right direction in order for diesel technology to advance in the U.S. The standards will be effective through the 2009 model year.
