Will VW's Fast Last? Or a Fad That'll Fade Fast?

VW is using a mascot in its GTI ads, dubbed the “Fast,” that is essentially a stylized plastic bunny. Our VW expert and resident columnist Dave Lewis explained to me that this is a riff on the VW Rabbit heritage of the Golf.
The message in the commercials goes something like, “Get in touch with your Fast.”
I don't like it because I think it's strained. When I first saw it on the web, without the benefit of TV, I was like, “what the hell is that – it makes no sense.”
However, Dave countered with the observation that VW is trying to build buzz and if I was talking about it, “Fast” did its job.
The real life bunnies are also doing their job on eBay for the VW dealers who received them from the company. Currently there are several on sale, and final prices appear to be in the $300 to $400 range.
