Toyota Increases Prius Prices

Toyota is increasing the MSRP for the 2006 Prius to $21,725, an increase of $450, or 2.1 percent. I'd tell you to go out and pick up a 2005 at the cheaper rate, but you can't because there's a waiting list for the #1 best selling hybrid vehicle in the land. The new price takes effect when the 2006 Prius goes on sale in mid-November.
Toyota has added some features to the 2006 Prius, including a tire pressure monitor sensor, as well an "occupant classification sensor" that determines if the front passenger seat is occupied and if an occupant meets the adult weight requirement for airbag deployment.
There's also a new, optional new rear back-up camera, and the toyota says the optional voice-activated navigation system has been improved.
Exterior cosmetic changes include restyled headlights and taillight clusters, an updated front grille and new front lip spoiler. On the inside, there's new darker seat fabric and a black textured instrument panel; Toyota is offering optional leather seating and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
You can also order a new audio system with MP3-media capability and a mini-jack port -- this would be for your iPod.
The Prius has an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 60 mpg in the city, 51 mpg on the highway and 55 mpg in combined driving.
