The 2009 Subaru WRX is a lot of fun to drive. Yes, it has the fabled all-wheel drive and all the Subaru bells and whistles like 4-speaker audio system with single-disc in-dash CD player and MP3/WMA capability, XM or Sirus radio capability, 17 x 7.0-inch 10-spoke gray aluminum-alloy wheels, and an impressive EPA mileage rating of 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway, but let’s be honest: The WRX is hot. This year’s model has been jacked up to a turbocharged 265-hp Boxer engine with 244 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm and an incredible double wishbone rear suspension.
This little car does 0-60 before you can blink twice and does it in style. A leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel with cruise control buttons and red stitching reminds the world what owners already know: This is a toy, not a commuting drone. With an MSRP starting at $24,995, the 2009 Subaru WRX is a toy almost anyone can afford. Choose from a four or five door model, and rev that engine.
